Stirling, Scotland and Doune Castle - August 15, 2014

We visited Stirling the day before driving back home.  It is such a beautiful town.
This was a beautiful hillside close to our hotel in Aberfeldy.  I loved the stone fence going up the hill.

Here we are in Stirling.  Such a clean and beautiful city.  It was a nice day and there were not too many tourists in the city so it was great walking around.

Xavier loved the Old Town Jail.  It was amazing to look into the old cells and see what they looked like back then.

We decided to tour Stirling Castle and were really happy we did.  It was beautiful both inside and out.

The inner courtyard of Stirling Castle.  They told us that at some point in the past the entire castle was painted this gold color.

A mix of several types of architecture throughout the castle marking all the additions done over the years.

Unicorns on the roof.  I still love unicorns.

The throne room.  The ceiling was redone the same way as the original ceiling without using any screws or nails.  Each wooden piece was fitted into the others.

Queen Aurelie feeling comfortable on the throne.

Some interesting information on the plaques below.

Aurelie had to sit on the throne again.  Maybe she will be a CEO or in some powerful position when she is an adult.  Who knows.

The William Wallace Monument.  It was unfortunately closed by the time we got there so we were only able to see the grounds but it was beautiful to visit all the same.

Some shots of Stirling Castle from afar.  Such a beautiful city.

We then had to visit Doune Castle, where "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" was filmed.  They shot this castle from each side using tight framing of the shots to maintain the illusion that they were going to different castles in the film.

We had a wonderful time in Scotland and hope to visit it again some day.  It has to be one of the most beautiful places in the world.
